What are the advantages to my organisation?
- Being Legally Compliant: Current health & safety legislation places a large number of duties on employers to look after the their employees, contractors and visitors to their sites. EBS can guide you through the relevant requirements.
- Avoiding Accidents: Accidents and ill health will be reduced if management is alert to and positively involved in the health & safety function and takes the correct risk assessment and risk control actions.
- Increasing Productivity: Lost days due to sickness or accident-damaged equipment have a direct impact on a company’s bottom line, whether through the payment of sick pay or just in lost productivity. EBS’ proactive approach can protect efficient productivity levels.
- Being Seen as a Caring Employer: Many of the services offered by EBS are preventative actions that can keep your workforce working. Employers who offer such services are seen as more caring, which has positive impacts on recruitment, retention and motivation.
What Is Included?
1. Health, Safety & Food Hygiene Management System Creation
An EBS Health & Safety specialist will create a bespoke Health, Safety & Food Hygiene Management System, as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, also complying with the Management of Health & Safety at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2006 and the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006, with Policy Statement, Organisation and Arrangements.
This system has become a basic requirement to prove to insurers that an employer fully exercises a ‘Duty of Care’ in the workplace. In addition, it is standard practice, if working as a contractor/supplier for prestigious companies, that they would wish to protect their professional reputation, by ensuring that their supply organisation is entirely compliant with the law.
2. General Risk Assessments for all Work Areas
EBS will conduct a General Risk Assessment of all work areas to determine the level of risk and the need for appropriate controls. Our assessments are able to relate to all parts of a business’ premises, such as offices, workshops, factories and/or catering facilities, together with quantifying the elements of risk in the principle work activities, specialist equipment/machinery, or work sites. This assessment helps EBS to determine specific health & safety needs, whilst prioritising all necessary corrective action. Assessments can also be carried out on the premises of contractors or suppliers if needed.
Each risk assessment results in a thorough, plain English, user-friendly Risk Assessment Report, which will be discussed in detail with the EBS client. This ensures that they gain full benefit from the recommendations and are able to implement the controls proposed to result in production of a Safe System of Work for all employees.
3. Health & Safety Induction and other Training
EBS provide Health & Safety Induction Training, together with instruction in the following: -
- Accurate performance of risk assessments
- Injury-free manual handling operations
- Control of substances hazardous to health and/or asbestos risk awareness
- Safe working at heights
- Appropriate use of lifting equipment
- Display screen equipment and workstation health & safety
- Fire safety in the workplace
- Contractor safety
- Personal protective equipment appropriate usage
- Workplace food safety & hygiene
- Personal hygiene (including safety in the laundering of food-preparation & serving uniform clothing and table linen)
- Tool box talks to on-site personnel
Training courses are available for Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, Health & Safety Representatives and Special Projects’ Workers. These courses cater to the needs of particular individuals that require a more detailed knowledge of Health & Safety.
4. Serious Accident Investigation & Causation Analysis
EBS conducts accident/incident investigations to determine causation and allow for the creation of appropriate safety controls to prevent any repeat of such events. However, we very much prefer to devise strategies for accident prevention at the outset. EBS can offer the most added-value if involved in the embryonic stage of projects so that we can help design-out risks sooner rather than later. This is especially valuable in construction work.
5. Health & Safety Support for Contractors
For organisations that work as contractors to other companies, EBS can perform an on-site survey to enable the creation of a specific Health & Safety Plan, and Health & Safety File, for individual projects.
In addition EBS can:-
- Support submissions for tendering for new projects
- Make visits to contract sites in order to provide extra support and advice, at times when it would be most valuable
- Attend pre-contract or on-site meetings to help represent our client’s interests at practical health, safety and environmental levels
- Produce ‘user-friendly’ reports, or other supportive literature, to assist in confirming ‘evidence’ of compliance with current Health & Safety legislation
- Provide in-house training to all your personnel, in addition to giving ‘tool-box talks’ to the on-site workers
6. On-Going Technical Support
EBS can make representation, on behalf of clients, to such authorities as The Health & Safety Executive and/or Environmental Health Officers before or during prosecutions.
In addition, EBS provide support to clients who are tenants in their workplace, whereby, if a health, safety and/or welfare shortfall exists in the leased premises, the landlord could be persuaded to upgrade the provision. This approach generally brings facilities in line with current legislation, thereby avoiding potential prosecution from Environmental Health and bringing resolution to the tenant.
What Does It Cost?
The fees are set on an hourly basis, currently £75/hour (for both offsite and onsite).
